Sam and I made General Tso’s chicken for dinner tonight. It’s his recipe, combined from a few different recipes he found online a while back, so I don’t have original sources.
The recipe for General Tso’s Chicken:
To Prepare Chicken: In a separate bowl, combine 1/2 cup soy sauce, 1 teaspoon white pepper, 1 egg, and 1 cup cornstarch and stir until mixed. Add 3 pounds chopped boneless skinless chicken breast and stir until chicken is evenly coated. Divide chicken into small quantities and deep fry at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) until crispy. Drain on paper towels.
In a big frying pan (or two), saute raw vegetables (this time we used green peppers, onion, and carrots). Add frozen/canned ingredients (frozen broccoli, frozen sugar snap peas, canned water chestnuts) and cooked chicken. Pour sauce over all ingredients and simmer until sauce thickens.
Combine the following ingredients to make the sauce (we doubled this because we made the chicken across two pans with a lot of veggies):
5 tablespoons white wine vinegar
4 tablespoons rice wine
6 tablespoons sugar
6 tablespoons soy sauce
4 teaspoons cornstarch
Serve with rice.
