Shoofly Cake

This recipe comes from the Grange Cookbook (1984 version?).

INGREDIENTS:

  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda (dissolved into 2 tablespoons  hot water)

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Mix dry ingredients with butter. 
  2. Take out one cup of crumbs for topping. 
  3. Add molasses, water, and soda mixture. 
  4. Mix and pour in a greased and floured 9×13 pan. Sprinkle on topping. 
  5. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes.
