Oatmeal Bread


  • 1c. quick oatmeal
  • ½ c. whole wheat flour
  • ½ c. brown sugar
  • 1 tab. Salt
  • 2 tab. Butter
  • 2 c. water
  • 5 c. white flour
  • 1 tab. dry yeast
  • ½ c. warm water


  1. combine the oatmeal, whole wheat flour, brown sugar, sat, and butter in a mixing bowl
  2. bring the 2 c. water to a boil and pour over the mixing bowl
  3. mix in 2 c. white flour, and allow the contents to cool
  4. combine the yeast with 1/2 c. warm water, and pour into the mixing bowl
  5. stir well
  6. mix in 3 more c. of white flour
  7. turn onto a floured board and knead well, adding only enough flour to prevent it from becoming tacky
  8. form a ball and cover with a towel, allowing to rise for ~2 hours
  9. shape into loaves and place into greased bread pans
  10. cover with a cloth and allow to raise for another hour
  11. bake at 350 for 35 min
